Police cruiser crashes into home, family displaced - wave3.com ...

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville Metro Police Department cruiser slammed into a Highview home and now a family has to find a new place to sleep for the night.

The crash happened in the 6300 block of Outer Loop.

Jesse Cundiff was working just a half a block away and saw the whole thing.

"I've never heard or seen anything like it in my life it was terrifying," said Cundiff.

Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Metro police said an officer was driving west on the Outer Loop responding to a call about a person down. Police said the officer swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle turning in the intersection and then crashed into the home.

An adult, teenager and baby family were inside the home and were able to get out.

"I saw the people having to come out of the living room window they had pets infants teenagers," said Cundiff.

"I was told they were not injured at this time," said Sgt. Barry Denton.

Police said the officer suffered neck injuries and cuts to his face and was taken to University Hospital.

Police spent the afternoon retracing the accident and checking out the home.

"We are looking at the house trying to make sure it's stable and we aren't allowing anyone in the house," said Sgt. Denton.

Police said the officer did have his lights and siren on and they will be reviewing the police car video to see what exactly happened.

The Red Cross is stepping in to help the family.
